Come on, come on. The professor had been lecturing her for what seemed like forever. Over what? One homework assignment? Big deal. Sure, this wasn't the first time she hadn't done her homework, but it wasn't like she never did it. There was no reason to make a big deal out of it. Glancing up at the teacher impatiently, she gave him a short look before lifting her eyes to the black clock on the well, then lowered them to rest on her shoes again. Sighing quite dramatically, she nudged the pattern in the floor boredly, mouth forming into an 'o' as she tried -- rather, made it look like she tried to -- restrain a yawn. It had been almost ten minutes that he'd been explaining the importance of homework to her, how 'it is only for the benefit of students... reinforce what is learned in class... help new material be absorbed...' Okay. She got the point. The first two minutes of this lecture were bearable. After about five, that was pushing it. Finally, the words she'd been waiting for."That is all, Miss Bouvet. You may go. I'm sure we won't have this problem again."
Damn straight, we won't. She flashed the professor a polite smile before practically jogging out the door. Doing the homework would have been worth it, had she known she'd have to sit and listen to him yap about the evils of not completing it. Friday tried to be a good student. Sometimes, she just didn't feel like it. Stepping outside, she relaxed under the barely noticeable whisper of the breeze. He had picked a hell of a day to keep her after class. A Friday afternoon? Ironically, Friday's favorite day of the week was in fact Friday, aside from Saturday. Everything good seemed to happen on Fridays. So, what to do with this marvelous one? She had no plans, really, so there was quite a bit of time to kill. Shopping sounded like a good idea. After all, it had been a while.
It didn't take long to run back to where she'd parked her bike. She loved her bike. Had it since she was around twelve and never really got sick of it. It was a bit old, and you could see its wear, but that was one of her favorite things about it. Swinging her leg over the seat, Friday pushed forward on the pedals and within a few seconds had a good momentum started towards the road. The ride to the mall was pleasantly quiet. The only noises were her own humming and steady breathing, the wind rushing past, a few cars every now and then, and the light chirping of birds. It was so nice. The building came into view, growing larger with each push of her legs. Entering the parking lot, she hopped off, parked the bike in one of the racks and locked it to one of the bars.
It was kind of crowded inside -- she wasn't even inside yet and she could tell. The glass doors of the entrance were constantly opening and closing, and she could vaguely see the crowded groups inside. They all seemed to have the same idea as she did. Pushing the door open with some difficulty, she pressed through the crowds, deciding to get a slushy before continuing on to the shops. The line would take a few minutes, but it was a good way to stand around and get a look at the mall. Jeez, there were a lot of kids.
